When Voodoo Drums Rumble

We haven't invoked any voodoo evil around here in a while, so howz'about a weird 'n tricky one from the April 1954 issue of Baffling Mysteries #20, plus a baffling bonus quickie from the same issue. We may as well finish out this issue with our next post too, it's an even more bizarre story featuring art by Lou Cameron--stay tombed for it later this week!

Frankenstein and the Plant

Awesome Arizona artistic, Layla, is not only a fantastic drummer, cosplay costume creator, and tee shirt designer, she's also a top notch prop master. Check out this amazing Little Shop of Horrors inspired, and fully functioning venus flytrap (meaning the head moves up, down, and side to side, and the mouth opens and closes) that she recently constructed from scratch.

She's currently building one for me too, and man, I totally cannot wait to feed my enemies to it! Anyone interested in one for themselves, or if you have an idea for something else you'd possibly like to see turned into a reality, just drop Layla a message HERE for price quotes :) Seriously, she can make ANYTHING!

And keeping with the carnivorous plant theme, here's a re-colored / reprinted Dick Briefer tale that originally appeared in the October-November 1954 issue of Frankenstein #33.

Curse of the Fire-Bird

THE HORRORS OF IT ALL rises from the ashes of a much needed vacation with a hot little curse to set your weird weekend on fire! The always slick, and exceptionally sexy bad girl art from Ace great, Lin Streeter, really turns up the hellacious heat on this one-- from the January 1953 issue of The Beyond #18. GCD says the cover art is by Gene Colan.
